TLDR Activating androgen receptors in muscle can increase muscle mass and reduce fat.
The study demonstrated that selective overexpression of androgen receptors (AR) in muscle cells of transgenic rodents increased lean muscle mass and significantly reduced fat mass, particularly in males. Similar effects were observed in HSA-AR females treated with testosterone. Metabolic analyses indicated increased O2 consumption and hypermetabolism in HSA-AR males. These findings suggested that targeted activation of AR in muscle could regulate body composition and metabolism, presenting a potential novel target for drug development.
