Nanocrystals for Improved Drug Delivery of Dexamethasone in Skin Investigated by EPR Spectroscopy

    The study investigated the use of nanocrystals for improved drug delivery of dexamethasone in skin, using EPR spectroscopy. It found that nanocrystals significantly enhanced drug penetration into both intact and barrier-disrupted porcine skin compared to a base cream, with factors of 3 and 2.1, respectively. Nanocrystals facilitated the delivery of 80% of the drug within 30 minutes, attributed to their high drug loading capacity and increased dissolution rate. The study concluded that nanocrystals were a promising alternative for improving the dermal delivery of sparingly soluble drugs like dexamethasone, particularly in treating inflammatory skin lesions.
