TLDR Nanostructured lipid carriers can effectively deliver herbal ingredients to treat hair loss and promote hair growth.
This review highlights the potential of nanostructured lipid carriers (NLCs) as advanced delivery systems for herbal bioactives in treating alopecia. NLCs offer improved solubility, stability, and targeted delivery, showing superior entrapment efficiency and enhanced follicular targeting compared to conventional carriers. Key phytoconstituents like ginsenosides and quercetin promote hair growth through various biological pathways. Clinical and preclinical studies report significant improvements in hair density and anagen phase duration with reduced irritation. Despite promising results, challenges such as variability in herbal composition and the need for extensive clinical trials remain. Future research should focus on optimizing formulations and conducting large-scale studies to facilitate market translation.
