Nephronectin Is Correlated With Poor Prognosis In Breast Cancer And Promotes Metastasis Via Its Integrin-Binding Motifs

    The study analyzed nephronectin (NPNT) expression in breast cancer tissue from 842 patients and found that granular cytoplasmic staining of NPNT in less than 10% of tumor cells was associated with poor prognosis. NPNT was suggested to promote metastasis through its integrin-binding motifs, enhancing adhesion and anchorage-independent growth, and facilitating lung colonization by breast tumor cells. The findings indicated that NPNT could serve as a novel prognostic marker for a subgroup of breast cancer patients.
