TLDR The Scalp Photographic Index (SPI) is a reliable tool for assessing scalp conditions.
The study introduced the Scalp Photographic Index (SPI), a new classification and scoring system for objectively evaluating scalp conditions, involving 100 subjects. The SPI assessed five features—dryness, oiliness, erythema, folliculitis, and dandruff—using a trichoscope and demonstrated strong correlation with dermatologist assessments. It showed excellent reliability, with a Cronbach’s α of 0.90, and high inter- and intra-rater reliability, indicating its consistency and ease of use. Despite requiring a trichoscope and limited validation across pigmentation levels, the SPI provided a reproducible method for assessing scalp conditions, aiding personalized treatment and potential clinical trial applications.
