The study developed and validated the Scalp Photographic Index (SPI), a new classification and scoring system for evaluating scalp conditions, which grades five features: dryness, oiliness, erythema, folliculitis, and dandruff on a scale of 0–3. The SPI was tested on 100 subjects and showed good correlation with dermatologist assessments and scalp-related symptom surveys. It demonstrated excellent internal consistency (Cronbach’s α = 0.90) and strong inter- and intra-rater reliability (Kendall’s W = 0.84, ICC(3,1)=0.94), making it an objective and reproducible tool for assessing scalp conditions.
