TLDR Good nutrition improves appearance and well-being in children with cancer.
This study examined the relationship between malnutrition and physical appearance in 47 children with cancer undergoing active treatment. It found that nutritional status significantly predicts physical appearance, with better nutrition correlating with improved appearance. Factors such as being female, older, having solid mass cancer, and a higher body mass index also influence appearance. Physical changes like hair loss and weight fluctuations cause psychological distress, particularly in adolescent girls concerned about social acceptance. The study highlights the importance of nutritional interventions in childhood cancer care to improve both physical appearance and psychological well-being.
