TLDR Obesity worsens metabolic issues in women with PCOS.
This study evaluated the impact of obesity on metabolic and biochemical parameters in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). It included 120 women aged 18-40, divided into three groups: 40 obese PCOS patients, 40 non-obese PCOS patients, and 40 healthy controls. The study found that the obese PCOS group had significantly higher body weight, BMI, total fat mass, and body fat percentage, along with lower body water percentage and HDL cholesterol levels compared to the other groups (p < 0.001). Additionally, fasting insulin levels and insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) were significantly higher in the obese PCOS group than in both the control and non-obese PCOS groups.
