TLDR Red OLED therapy significantly boosts hair growth.
The study introduces red organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) as a novel photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) for promoting hair growth, particularly in cases of alopecia. OLEDs offer advantages such as uniform light distribution, flexibility, and minimal heat production, making them suitable for wearable PBMT devices. The research demonstrates that OLEDs significantly enhance hair regrowth, increasing hair length by 1.5 times and expanding the regrowth area by over 3 times after 20 days of treatment. The study identifies two mechanisms by which OLEDs stimulate hair follicle regeneration: increased autophagy during the anagen phase and enhanced blood oxygen content due to improved microvascular blood flow, as evidenced by in-vivo experiments on mice.
