TLDR 600 mg/kg Omega-3 improves skin, hair, feeding, and metabolic health in Bichon Frises.
The study investigated the effects of Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) on skin health, hair quality, and feeding behavior in 20 adult Bichon Frises. Dogs were divided into five groups, with varying Omega-3 PUFA supplementation. After six weeks, the group receiving 600 mg/kg Omega-3 PUFA showed significant improvements in hair radiance (106.0% increase), reduced hair loss (48.2% decrease), increased skin moisture (43.6% increase), and higher sebum content and hair diameter. This group also had the highest average daily feed intake. Additionally, groups receiving 600 and 900 mg/kg Omega-3 PUFA had lower levels of total cholesterol, triglycerides, and C-reactive protein. The study concludes that 600 mg/kg Omega-3 PUFA supplementation effectively enhances skin and hair health, supports feeding behavior, and improves metabolic health in adult Bichon Frises.
