TLDR Booster doses of Covaxin improve protection against the Omicron variant.
The study evaluated the neutralizing ability of sera from 123 participants divided into three groups: COVID-19 naïve individuals, recovered cases, and breakthrough cases, all vaccinated with Covaxin, against the Omicron variant. It found that breakthrough cases had the highest neutralizing activity, followed by recovered cases, while naïve cases had significantly lower neutralization. The Omicron variant showed strong resistance to neutralization compared to other variants like B.1, Beta, and Delta. Despite reduced neutralization, the immune response was sufficient to protect against severe disease, emphasizing the importance of booster doses for enhanced protection.
