TLDR Standardizing light therapy methods could improve spinal cord injury treatment.
This review discusses the potential of photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy in the red/near-infrared spectrum for spinal cord injury (SCI) repair, highlighting the lack of consistent parameters for PBM delivery as a barrier to effective treatment. The review emphasizes the need for standardized therapeutic methodologies and a universal method to measure the therapeutic dose of light to improve clinical outcomes. It calls for consensus and standardization in preclinical methodologies to develop minimally invasive treatment protocols that minimize injury sequelae and facilitate spinal cord repair.
