TLDR Iron supplements can help reduce hair loss in women with low iron levels.
The study assessed the impact of oral iron replacement therapy on 52 females with low serum ferritin and diffuse hair loss. Results showed that 51.9% of participants experienced a significant reduction in hair loss severity after two weeks of treatment, as measured by the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). However, 23% showed no significant improvement, and 25% did not respond to the treatment at all. The study concluded that serum ferritin levels should be measured in patients with chronic telogen effluvium before initiating other hair loss treatments, and iron replacement therapy is recommended for females with low serum ferritin due to its safety and minimal side effects.
