Osteopontin Gene Polymorphisms rs1126616 C>T and rs1126772 A>G Are Associated with Atopic Dermatitis in Polish Population

The study investigated the association between osteopontin (OPN) gene polymorphisms and atopic dermatitis (AD) in a Polish population, involving 182 participants (45 AD patients and 137 controls). It found that the minor TT genotype and T allele of rs1126616 C>T, as well as the minor GG genotype and G allele of rs1126772 A>G, were more frequent in AD patients and linked to a higher prevalence of asthma. Additionally, the TGCT haplotype was identified as a significant risk factor for AD. The findings suggested that OPN gene polymorphisms might be associated with AD and asthma, indicating the potential of OPN as a biomarker for AD. Further research was recommended to explore this possibility.
