TLDR Managing oxidative stress and inflammation is crucial for better hair transplant results.
This systematic review examines the impact of oxidative stress and inflammation on hair graft viability in FUE and FUT hair transplantation techniques, analyzing 10 studies from 2013 to 2024. Both techniques induce oxidative stress and inflammation, affecting graft survival, with FUE being less invasive but potentially causing more oxidative damage. Strategies to mitigate these effects include using PRGF, antioxidants, and activating the Nrf2 pathway. The review highlights the importance of managing oxidative stress and inflammation through evidence-based strategies and advanced technologies to improve hair transplant outcomes. However, it notes limitations such as study heterogeneity and lack of standardized protocols, emphasizing the need for further research.
