TLDR Female university students in Peradeniya have low awareness of PCOS.
A study conducted among female undergraduate students at the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, revealed a significant knowledge gap regarding polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), with overall awareness being relatively low at less than 40%, except for the symptom of an irregular menstrual cycle. The study found that students who obtained information from healthcare practitioners had higher awareness scores, and those in the medical faculty scored the highest. The internet was the most common source of information, but the study suggests that awareness programs should be improved by involving qualified experts and utilizing platforms like Google and social media.
