Hidradenitis Suppurativa in the Pediatric Population: A 4-Year Cohort in a Tertiary Hospital

TLDR Early recognition and treatment of hidradenitis suppurativa in children are crucial to prevent complications.
This study examined 55 pediatric patients with hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) over 4 years, highlighting a gap between symptom onset and diagnosis, with a mean age of onset at 12.69 years and diagnosis at 14.36 years. The majority were female (78.2%) and had comorbidities, notably obesity (65.5%) and acne vulgaris (32.7%). Commonly affected areas included the inguinal region (76.4%) and axilla (52.7%). Most patients were at Hurley stage 2 (61.8%). Treatments primarily involved antibiotics, with 98.2% using topical and 61.8% systemic forms, alongside hormone therapy and immune modulators. Early recognition and treatment are crucial to prevent complications.
