TLDR Early recognition and treatment of hidradenitis suppurativa in children are crucial to prevent complications.
This study examined 55 pediatric patients with hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) over 4 years, revealing a mean age of onset at 12.69 years and diagnosis at 14.36 years. The majority were female (78.2%) and had comorbidities, with obesity (65.5%) and acne vulgaris (32.7%) being the most common. The inguinal area was the most affected site (76.4%), and 61.8% of patients were classified as Hurley stage 2. Treatments included topical antibiotics (98.2%), systemic antibiotics (61.8%), hormone therapy (29.1%), and immune modulators (18.2%). Most patients (74.5%) reported improvements post-treatment. The study highlights the importance of early recognition and treatment to prevent complications.
