A Phase II Trial of Retinoids on Lupus Nephritis in a Single Center

TLDR Retinoids may help treat lupus nephritis and reduce steroid use.
This Phase II trial investigated the effectiveness and safety of retinoids (ATRA and AM80) in treating lupus nephritis (LN) in 23 patients. ATRA (10 mg/day) was administered to 9 patients, and AM80 (4 mg/day) to 14 patients for 6 months. Results showed that urinary protein levels decreased significantly in the ATRA group and tended to reduce in the AM80 group. Serum albumin levels tended to increase, and anti-double-strand DNA antibody levels tended to decrease in both groups. Adverse reactions led to the discontinuation of AM80 in 6 cases. The study concluded that retinoids might improve LN resistant to conventional therapy and could potentially reduce the required dose of steroids. However, the small sample size limited the statistical significance of the findings.

community Tretinoin for some men(not all) can cause non-telogen effluvium hair loss

      in Research/Science  6 upvotes 8 months ago
Tretinoin can cause non-telogen hair loss in some men by inducing catagen-like changes in hair follicles and through retinoid toxicity, especially when used with minoxidil. Some users report hair loss even when using retinoids on the face, while others experience benefits when combined with treatments like finasteride and minoxidil.

A study that outlines the full model for androgenic alopecia (AGA) which links DHT to cellular senescence in dermal papilla cells, and suggests black chokeberry as a source of cyanidin 3-O-arabinoside polyphenol with potential anti-oxidant properties that could reverse this process. The post encourages reaching out to experts in anti-aging and longevity to research treatments involving the polyphenol.

User tried dermarolling for hair loss and shared progress pictures. Some suggest adding finasteride and minoxidil, while others debate effectiveness and frequency of dermarolling.

community DLQ01: A Better "Minoxidil" PGF2a synthetic analogue.

      in Research/Science  3 upvotes 1 year ago
DLQ01, a prostaglandin F2α analog, shows promise for hair growth by directly stimulating PGE2/PGF receptors without needing conversion, and can be combined with minoxidil and retinoids like tretinoin for enhanced effectiveness. Minoxidil's efficacy may be reduced by COX-1 inhibitors, but using prostaglandin analogs like Latanoprost or Bimatoprost can help maintain its effectiveness.

community Tretinoin can make it worse!!!

Tretinoin may enhance minoxidil's effectiveness for those not responding to minoxidil alone, but it could reduce efficacy for some who are already responding to minoxidil. Tretinoin requires careful use, including skin moisturizing and sun protection due to increased sensitivity.
