TLDR Photobiomodulation therapy effectively promotes hair regrowth and improves quality of life in alopecia areata without side effects.
This study investigated the effects of photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) on alopecia areata (AA) in 25 participants. PBMT was applied twice weekly for 12 weeks, and results showed significant hair regrowth, as indicated by reduced Severity of Alopecia Tool (SALT) scores across all scalp regions (p < 0.001). The greatest improvements were observed in the back of the scalp. Additionally, the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) scores significantly improved (p < 0.001), reflecting enhanced quality of life. The study concludes that PBMT is a promising noninvasive treatment for AA, with no reported systemic or local side effects.
