TLDR Camel hair textiles treated with Rose Bengal effectively kill bacteria under light.
The study successfully developed photodynamic antibacterial textiles by functionalizing camel hair with the photosensitizer Rose Bengal (RB), achieving significant antibacterial efficacy against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli under visible light. The RB-modified camel hair demonstrated 99.99% and 99.65% bacterial inactivation within 30 minutes. Blended yarns of camel hair and RB-camel hair exhibited strong mechanical properties, with maximum tensile strengths of 4.02 MPa and 5.82 MPa for 70:30 camel hair/RB-camel hair and 70:30 cotton/RB-camel hair blends, respectively. The study highlights the potential for high-value, diversified camel hair textiles with effective antibacterial performance through photodynamic inactivation.
