Physicochemical and Spectral Properties of Herbal Hair Oils Available in Local Market of Bangladesh

This study assessed the physicochemical and sensory properties of nine herbal hair oils available in Bangladesh to evaluate their quality, safety, and compliance with cosmetic standards. The analysis included parameters such as color, odor, pH, specific gravity, acid value, saponification value, iodine value, and peroxide value. All samples were non-irritant with acceptable pH levels, but some showed deviations in other parameters. Oils like Hamdard, Navratna, and Rangapori largely met standards, while Farjana and Sesa exhibited oxidative instability, suggesting formulation issues. The study emphasizes the need for strict quality control and proper storage to ensure safety and stability. Additionally, all tested oils demonstrated some UV protection, with SPF values reaching up to 7.0.
