TLDR Piezo1 helps skin grow by managing metabolism and inflammation.
The study investigates the role of the mechanotransducer Piezo1 in skin growth under constant stretch using a mouse model. Researchers found that stretched skin exhibits an enhanced inflammatory-metabolic network, with increased signaling and immune cell infiltration, particularly macrophages and monocytes. Glycolysis-related genes were upregulated, suggesting metabolic changes. Piezo1 appears to sense tension in the skin, coordinating these responses. Mice with a loss of Piezo1 function showed reduced skin growth and related factors, while those with enhanced Piezo1 function showed increases. This highlights Piezo1's role in coordinating metabolism and inflammation during skin expansion.
