TLDR Pili annulati may be more common than thought, so recognizing its features is important for diagnosis.
Pili annulati is an autosomal dominant hair shaft disorder characterized by a shiny appearance with alternating light and dark bands, affecting various hair types including scalp, axillary, beard, and pubic hair. This case series involves seven patients diagnosed through clinical and trichoscopic evaluation, with one patient showing unusual eyebrow and eyelash involvement and another with a distinct patch of heterochromia. The remaining five had diffuse scalp involvement. The study suggests that the prevalence of pili annulati may be underestimated, highlighting the importance of recognizing its clinical and trichoscopic features for accurate diagnosis.
