TLDR PRP treatment improved skin pigmentation and appearance in facial lichen planus pigmentosus.
This prospective pilot study evaluated the efficacy of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) for treating facial lichen planus pigmentosus (LPP) in 12 patients. Over 12 weeks, intradermal PRP injections led to a significant reduction in melanin index, indicating decreased pigmentation, with dermatologists' assessments and patient satisfaction scores supporting these results. Most patients reported moderate to good improvement, and adverse effects were minimal. The study concluded that PRP is a promising treatment for LPP, offering a potential alternative to existing therapies, though further research with larger sample sizes and longer follow-up is necessary to confirm these findings.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.

Men with hair loss might have lichen planopilaris (LPP), which can mimic androgenetic alopecia, leading to misdiagnosis and ineffective treatment with finasteride or dutasteride. Proper diagnosis, including biopsies, is crucial to distinguish between androgenetic alopecia and conditions like LPP.
