TLDR Protein-losing enteropathy worsened with lupus symptoms but improved with prednisolone.
A 38-year-old woman experienced symptoms such as edema, diarrhea, polyarthralgia, Raynaud's phenomenon, malar rash, and hair loss, leading to a diagnosis of protein-losing enteropathy (PLE) associated with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Her condition was confirmed through 99mtechnetium-labeled human serum albumin scintigraphy and laboratory tests for antinuclear and anti-Sm antibodies. The case highlighted a strong link between PLE and SLE, as PLE worsened with the onset of SLE symptoms but improved with prednisolone treatment, which also alleviated SLE symptoms.
