Pain Relief and Dermatological Changes in Complex Regional Pain Syndrome with Peripheral Nerve Stimulation

This case study highlights the successful use of peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS) in treating complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) in a female patient in her thirties with a history of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and Parsonage-Turner syndrome. Despite extensive prior treatments, including medications and physical therapies, the patient's CRPS symptoms persisted. Following the ultrasound-guided implantation of a PNS device, the patient experienced an 85% reduction in pain and significant improvement in dermatological symptoms, such as skin color changes and hair regrowth. The study suggests that PNS may offer both analgesic and dermatological benefits through neuromodulation and anti-inflammatory effects, providing a promising treatment avenue for CRPS patients.
