TLDR Nurse Practitioners play a key role in managing PCOS despite lacking specific guidelines.
The literature review on Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) highlighted the complexity and multifaceted nature of the syndrome, which posed significant challenges in diagnosis and management. Women with PCOS faced long-term health risks such as insulin resistance, cardiovascular disease, endometrial cancer, obesity, depression, anxiety, infertility, and dermatological issues. The review emphasized the critical role of Nurse Practitioners (NPs) in Canada, who, despite the absence of primary care guidelines, were positioned to collaborate with specialists in managing PCOS. The review aimed to gather evidence to support the development of clinical practice guidelines to aid NPs in effectively diagnosing and managing PCOS in adult women.
