Regulation of Polyethylene Nano-Packaging on Postharvest Stipe Elongation of Flammulina Velutipes

    The study examined the impact of polyethylene nano-packaging on the postharvest stipe elongation of Flammulina velutipes mushrooms over 18 days. Nano-packaging was found to maintain higher CO2 and lower O2 levels, reducing the respiration rate and inhibiting stipe elongation compared to PE-packaged and unpackaged controls. It decreased enzyme activities (chitinase and β-1,3-glucanase) and the synthesis of chitin and β-glucan, while also lowering hormone levels (auxin, abscisic acid, gibberellin, and cytokinin) that are crucial for cell elongation. By day 18, stipe elongation was significantly less in the nano-packaging group, indicating its effectiveness in maintaining mushroom quality and extending shelf life by regulating physiological processes.
