TLDR The polyherbal serum shows promise for safely managing alopecia areata.
The study explores a novel polyherbal emulsion-based hair serum for managing alopecia areata, an autoimmune disorder affecting 2% of the global population. Conventional treatments often have adverse effects and high relapse rates, prompting the need for safer alternatives. The researchers formulated and evaluated four serum batches using five herbal extracts: Bhringraj, Neem, Manjistha, Green Tea, and Brahmi. These batches were assessed for various parameters, including pH, viscosity, spreadability, drug content, antioxidant activity, and stability. The polyherbal serum offers a promising multi-mechanistic approach to alopecia areata management, potentially reducing the side effects associated with traditional therapies.
