TLDR The herbal shampoo powder is a safe and effective alternative to synthetic shampoos, with the F6 formulation being the best.
This study developed and evaluated a polyherbal shampoo powder using medicinal plants, focusing on antimicrobial properties and optimal physicochemical characteristics. Six formulations were created, with Ocimum sanctum (Tulsi) and Azadirachta indica (Neem) as key antimicrobial agents. The formulations were tested for properties like pH, foaming capacity, and antimicrobial activity against Pityrosporum ovale and Escherichia coli. All formulations showed acceptable physical characteristics and a mildly acidic pH suitable for scalp health. Antimicrobial activity increased with higher concentrations of Tulsi and Neem. Formulation F6, with 32.5% Tulsi and 32.5% Neem, showed the highest antimicrobial efficacy and foaming stability. Safety tests indicated the formulations were non-irritant to the skin, with only mild eye irritation. The study concluded that the herbal shampoo powder is a safe and effective alternative to synthetic shampoos, with F6 being the most promising formulation.
