This study analyzed postoperative hair loss and micronutrient deficiencies in 261 patients who underwent either one-anastomosis gastric bypass (OAGB) or laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG). Hair loss was most severe at 3 months post-surgery but improved by 6 months, with no significant difference between the two surgical methods. Iron and zinc levels significantly decreased at 3 months but partially recovered by 6 months, while vitamin B12 and folic acid levels increased with supplementation. Iron deficiency and female sex were strong predictors of hair loss. The study emphasizes the need for nutritional monitoring to manage hair loss as a temporary complication of metabolic and bariatric surgery.
