TLDR The PRECISE scale helps estimate how many grafts are needed for hair transplant based on the severity of hair loss.
The PRECISE scale is a quantitative classification system for androgenetic alopecia that estimates the number of grafts needed for hair transplantation. It uses a 0-10 rating and recommends 1500 grafts for each point on the scale. The scale measures hairless and thinning areas, using techniques like LiDAR/TrueDepth technologies for 3D modeling, and applies a correction factor for miniaturized areas. The Relative Bald Area (RBA) is crucial for classification. The scale can be used in telehealth and is expected to have good reproducibility. For instance, a PRECISE class 5 would need 7500 grafts, possibly requiring 2 or 3 procedures. However, the surgeon must consider the patient's available resources, such as the availability of hair follicles in donor areas. Future studies aim to validate the scale's reproducibility and its correlation with the coverage value and the hair diameter index.

      community Occipitalis Muscle Tension Theory

in Treatment  8 upvotes 2 weeks ago
Scalp tension from the occipitalis muscle is theorized to contribute to hair loss, but most believe DHT and genetics are the main causes. Treatments like finasteride and minoxidil are considered more effective than addressing scalp tension.

Potential treatments for hair loss, including Minoxidil, finasteride, RU58841 and various upcoming pharmaceuticals, gene editing and cloning. It is suggested that a cure, if found, would be highly profitable due to the large number of people affected by hair loss globally.

community Perez Hilton Had 3 Transplants.. Yet Losing Hair.. Someone Explain?

in Transplants  71 upvotes 2 years ago
The conversation discusses Perez Hilton's hair loss despite having three hair transplants. Participants suggest that hair loss can continue after a transplant if maintenance treatments like finasteride and minoxidil are not used, and that transplanted hair can still be susceptible to loss.
