Pretibial Pruritic Papular Dermatitis: A Case Report and Emphasis on Effective Treatment with Pentoxifylline

This case report discusses a 60-year-old woman with pretibial pruritic papular dermatitis (PPPD), a rare skin condition. After initial misdiagnosis, the condition was confirmed through histopathological examination. Traditional treatments with topical corticosteroids and antihistamines were ineffective, but the addition of oral pentoxifylline significantly improved symptoms within 1 month. The report suggests pentoxifylline as a potential effective treatment for PPPD and highlights the importance of recognizing the condition, proposing that chronic venous insufficiency may contribute to its pathogenesis.
