TLDR Thyroid tuberculosis can cause hypothyroidism and should be considered when diagnosing cervical masses.
This case study highlights a rare instance of primary thyroid tuberculosis associated with hypothyroidism in a 31-year-old female patient who experienced symptoms such as loss of appetite, hair loss, and cervical nodules. Despite initial treatment with levothyroxine sodium, the patient remained symptomatic, leading to a total thyroidectomy. The examination revealed chronic granulomatous thyroiditis, prompting a six-month antitubercular treatment. The study underscores the importance of considering thyroid tuberculosis in the differential diagnosis of cervical masses and the need for biopsy and histopathological examination for accurate diagnosis and timely treatment.
