TLDR Prolactin levels are higher in women with hirsutism but don't relate to its severity.
The study investigated the relationship between serum prolactin levels and the severity of hirsutism in 60 women aged 18-35 years, compared to 10 healthy controls. Hirsutism severity was assessed using the Ferriman and Gallwey method. Results showed that serum prolactin levels were significantly higher in women with mild hirsutism and non-significantly higher in those with moderate hirsutism compared to controls. However, there was no statistically significant correlation between prolactin levels and the severity of hirsutism. The study concluded that while prolactin levels were elevated in hirsute women, they did not correlate significantly with hirsutism severity.
