TLDR Propranolol, flunarizine, and divalproex sodium are equally effective for preventing migraines, but have different side effects.
The study compared the effectiveness of propranolol, flunarizine, and divalproex sodium in the prophylactic treatment of migraines among 84 patients in North India, divided into three groups of 28. Over three months, all three medications were found to be equally effective in reducing migraine frequency and duration. Side effects varied, with facial swelling occurring in group II, dizziness and tremors in groups I and III, hair loss in group III, weight gain across all groups, and insomnia in group II. Despite these side effects, the overall efficacy in managing migraines was similar across the medications.
