TLDR C4BPA protein may link acne severity and insulin resistance.
This study investigated the link between acne vulgaris (AV) and insulin resistance (IR) by analyzing plasma proteins in 90 AV patients and 30 healthy controls. The research identified C4BPA as a key protein associated with both AV severity and insulin levels, particularly in AV patients with IR. C4BPA was found to be enriched in immune pathways and correlated with AV severity and insulin levels, suggesting it may act as a central mediator in the pathogenesis of AV and IR. The findings propose that insulin may worsen acne by affecting lipid metabolism and inflammatory pathways, with C4BPA playing a crucial role in this process.
