Proteomic Analysis to Identify Prospective Biomarkers of Treatment Outcome After Microvascular Decompression for Trigeminal Neuralgia: A Preliminary Study

This preliminary study examined potential biomarkers to predict surgical outcomes in trigeminal neuralgia patients undergoing microvascular decompression by analyzing proteomic profiles from 16 patients. Researchers identified 12 proteins with differential regulation between responders and non-responders, involved in neuroinflammation, axonal function, and neurotransmission pathways. These findings suggest these proteins could serve as biomarkers for MVD response, providing insights into TN's molecular mechanisms. However, the study's small sample size and short follow-up period limit its conclusions, indicating a need for larger studies for validation.
