TLDR A new method improves betulin delivery and shows promise in cancer treatment.
This study presents a promising method for administering betulin in in vivo experiments, addressing its water insolubility by dissolving it in ethanol and mixing it with acylglycerols, followed by ethanol evaporation. Olive oil and food-grade lard were identified as suitable carriers for noninvasive oral application. The study found that betulin levels in blood are crucial for future clinical studies, allowing continuous monitoring. In experiments with Wistar rats and NMRI mice, a significant synergistic effect of betulin on solid Ehrlich adenocarcinoma tumors was observed when combined with Namitecan. The study concludes that the administration method and analytical procedure could enhance the reliability of future studies on betulin and similar compounds.
