Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy in the Treatment of Androgenic Alopecia – Review

Androgenic alopecia (AGA), a type of hair loss influenced by the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT), affects up to 50% of men and 40% of women over the age of 50. This condition can also impact individuals involved in moderate and high-intensity aerobic sports. While various topical and oral therapies have been developed to combat hair loss, their effects are often partial and temporary. As an alternative, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, known for its use in orthopedics, has shown promising results in treating hair loss. This review aimed to summarize the effects of PRP on hair loss prevention in individuals with AGA and analyze the relationship between androgen levels and physical activity.
