TLDR Platelet-rich plasma therapy improves oral lichen planus symptoms with few side effects.
This systematic review evaluates the efficacy of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy in treating oral lichen planus (OLP), an autoimmune disorder. The review includes five studies with a total of 94 participants, predominantly female, aged 40 to 60 years. PRP therapy shows promise as an alternative to corticosteroids, offering similar efficacy in reducing pain and lesion size, with some studies noting improvements in steroid-resistant cases. PRP is associated with minimal adverse effects and recurrences, although some studies reported more adverse effects and higher relapse rates compared to corticosteroids. Despite these findings, the review emphasizes the need for further research with larger sample sizes to confirm PRP's effectiveness and guide treatment guidelines.
