Investigation of the Differential Effect of Juice or Water Extract from Puerariae Radix on Hair Growth Related Genes in Dermal Papilla Cells

TLDR Puerariae Radix water extract may boost hair growth by increasing specific gene expression.
The study investigated the effects of juice and water extracts from Puerariae Radix on hair growth-related genes in human dermal papilla cells. It was found that both extracts exhibited strong antioxidant activity, but the juice extract showed higher cytotoxicity compared to the water extract. Notably, the water extract significantly increased the mRNA expression levels of hair growth-related genes such as CTNNB1, FGF7, and BMP6, while the juice extract did not influence these genes. The findings suggested that the water extract of Puerariae Radix could effectively induce hair growth by enhancing the expression of specific genes associated with hair growth. Future research was recommended to explore the broader effects of Puerariae Radix extracts on hair growth mechanisms in dermal papilla cells.
