TLDR Microneedle patches with alpha-arbutin and resveratrol can effectively reduce skin pigmentation without irritation.
This study explored the use of dissolving microneedle (DMN) patches made from polyvinyl pyrrolidone-K90/Eudragit RL100 to enhance the delivery of alpha-arbutin (AA) and resveratrol (Res) for skin depigmentation. The patches, particularly the F3 formulation with a 5:1 ratio of 10% AA to 2% Res, demonstrated improved intradermal delivery, achieving approximately 2.6 times higher absorption than a cream formulation. The patches were effective in slightly reducing the melanin index without causing skin irritation, and they did not affect skin hydration, transepidermal water loss, or elasticity. The study concluded that AA/Res-loaded DMN patches could be a promising method for delivering cosmetic agents for skin depigmentation.
