TLDR Men with hair loss experience lower quality of life, worsened by factors like age, severity, and treatment history.
This study assessed the quality of life (QoL) of male patients with androgenetic alopecia (AGA) using the Hair Specific Skindex-29 questionnaire. The results showed that patients with AGA have significantly decreased QoL, and factors such as previous non-medical hair care, hospital visits for AGA treatment, younger age, longer duration of AGA, and severe alopecia can further damage their QoL. Physicians need to address the psychosocial and QoL issues when treating patients with alopecia.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.
