Preliminary Investigations of Rat Skin After Topical Application of Optical Clearing Agent

TLDR The skin fully recovered after using the optical clearing agent, showing no long-term harm.
The study investigated the effects of a mixture of PEG-400 and Thiazone, used as optical clearing agents (OCAs), on rat skin. It was found that while the application initially stunted hair growth and caused some abnormal thickening and vacuoles in the epidermis, as well as denser collagen arrangement, these effects were temporary. After 2 weeks, the skin's morphology and microstructure fully recovered, indicating no long-term adverse effects. This research provided a method for assessing the safety of OCAs on skin.
