TLDR Red ginseng oil improves urinary symptoms and some sexual functions in men safely.
The study assessed the safety and efficacy of red ginseng oil (RXGIN) in 88 men aged 40 to 75 with lower urinary tract symptoms. Participants were randomly assigned to receive either RXGIN or a placebo for 12 weeks. Results showed significant improvements in the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) and subscores in the RXGIN group compared to the control group at both 6 and 12 weeks. Additionally, the RXGIN group experienced improvements in the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) and sexual desire, although there were no significant changes in serum testosterone or dihydrotestosterone levels. A significant decrease in serum prostate-specific antigen was observed at week 12. No serious adverse events were reported, indicating that RXGIN is safe and effective for improving urinary symptoms and some aspects of sexual function in men.
