Photobiomodulation (PBM), or red light therapy, is a non-pharmacological intervention that shows promise in enhancing athletic performance and systemic healing. This review highlights PBM's ability to stimulate cytochrome c oxidase, leading to increased ATP production and modulation of oxidative stress. Clinical benefits include reduced muscle fatigue, faster bone and tendon repair, neuroprotection in brain injuries, and decreased chronic inflammation. The effectiveness of PBM in both clinical and athletic contexts relies on precise adherence to specific wavelength and energy density protocols.
