Regulation of Polyethylene Nano-Packaging on Postharvest Stipe Elongation of Flammulina velutipes

    The study investigated the effects of polyethylene nano-packaging on postharvest stipe elongation of Flammulina velutipes, revealing that nano-packaging effectively reduced stipe elongation and prolonged shelf life. The nano-packaging created an environment with higher CO2 and lower O2 levels, reducing respiration during storage. It also lowered the stipe elongation rate, chitinase, and β-1,3-glucanase activities, inhibiting increases in chitin and β-glucan. Additionally, levels of hormones like auxin, abscisic acid, gibberellin, and cytokinin were lower in the nano-packaged group. After 18 days, stipe elongation was significantly less in the nano-packaged group compared to PE-packaged and unpackaged controls, demonstrating its effectiveness in maintaining mushroom quality.
