TLDR Human hair keratin can help repair fat tissue.
The study investigated the potential of human hair keratin (HHK) material for adipogenesis to address fat defects using 3 Tibet mini-pigs. Eight fat defects were created, with HHK material implanted on one side and the other side serving as a control. Results showed that 2 weeks post-implantation, connective tissue and capillaries infiltrated the HHK material. By 4 weeks, the material was mostly absorbed, leaving adipocyte clusters. At 6 weeks, the material was fully degraded, and new adipose tissue formed, matching the original HHK volume. By 10 weeks, the new fat tissue resembled normal fat, indicating that HHK material could effectively form and remodel adipose tissue.
