This study investigates the molecular signatures of dermal papilla (DP) cells, which are crucial for hair growth, focusing on their plasticity and regenerative potential. By culturing DP explants, researchers generated three DP cell populations, each showing a progressive loss of hair induction and increased senescence. Global gene expression analysis revealed a transient upregulation of wound healing and stem cell markers in pre-senescent DP cells, aligning with hair follicle regression signatures. These findings suggest that dynamic gene expression changes in DP cells are linked to their plasticity, indicating a potential reprogramming window that could be utilized for hair growth and skin rejuvenation strategies.
