TLDR The patches could quickly deliver epilepsy treatment and reduce seizures.
The study focused on developing sodium valproate-loaded nanofibrous patches for rapid epileptic treatment. These patches, created using a pressurized gyration technique, showed promising results by dispersing in 78 seconds and releasing 96.66% of the drug in 45 seconds. In vitro and animal studies indicated that the patches could permeate mucosal membranes more quickly than existing products and concentrated more effectively in brain tissues, particularly in the temporal and frontal lobes. The treatment also reduced oxidative stress and seizure severity in animal models, suggesting its potential as an effective rapid-response treatment for epilepsy.
